A recent Angus Reid poll conducted in September 2013 shows that the public’s view of Islam has deteriorated in the past four years: 53 percent of Canadians outside of Quebec have an unfavorable view of Islam, up from 46 percent in 2009. In Quebec, 69 percent of people have the same unfavorable views.
What is happening? Does the representation of Muslims in the media contribute to these numbers? How do we shift this thinking, and recognize the different roles that Muslims play in Canadian civic society?

About Nazim Baksh
Nazim Baksh has had a distinguished 20-year career as a producer for CBC television and radio. He is currently a lead producer for Toronto’s daily supper hour television newscast, and has worked as a producer on Dispatches, an award-winning CBC radio program. He has also served as the foreign editor of As It Happens, produced for the National, the 5th Estate, and CBC’s documentary unit. He has worked extensively on issues of national security and violent religious extremism, and has done extensive fieldwork in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2006, he was the recipient of the prestigious Massey Journalism Fellowship at the University of Toronto. Nazim Baksh holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario and a B.A. Honours in political science and history from York University.
